Previous | Home | Next Mohammed Kacha Kacha Mohammed Jr., 16, lost his father, Kacha Mohammed sr., in 2002 to AIDS. Kacha together with four brothers and two sisters, stay with their mother, Madina Namagembe, at Nsambwe village in Nama sub-county, Mukono district. Since the death of his father the mother has been taking care of his education, but being a peasant with a small plot of land, Madina can hardly meet all education costs in addition to caring for eight other children. Kacha’s brother, Ali, currently in senior one at Mpoma Royal College School is lucky to be sponsored by FINIDP for four years; thanks to Alliance Africa (www.allianceafrica.org) which is funding the orphan education project. Kacha is in senior four at Kisowera Senior Secondary School where he won a bursary (free pay for one school term) for working hard and being the best student in class. In his detailed application letter to FINIDP for sponsorship, Kacha narrated: “for sure I go through many challenges and the following deserve a mention: after the death of my father, life changed; I’m ever being chased out of school, and what hurts me most is stopping in senior four (S.4) when I’m just ‘half-baked.” “This is exactly why I wish to call upon on big-hearted people out there to help me continue with my studies.” “I’m just two years away from College/ University.” “I’m bright enough and my ambition is to become a medical doctor.” “I would be exceedingly grateful if I get a sponsor, particularly to help me go through high school level and probably through College/University.” By the time FINIDP visited Kacha’s family and former school, his academic performance was encouraging; his teachers ranked him among the top 5%. With a sponsor identified, Kacha hopes that his ambitions will be accomplished because secondary education will help him to get skills, become responsible and be ready to face future challenges.
