Sandra Agasulu

Sandra Agasulu, 14, lost her mother, Mary Nakiranda, in March 2008 and she was the only one meeting Sandra’s basic needs. Much as my mother was self-employed, she could pay my fees and buy other school materials. Her father, Bosco Obe, became insane in 2005. In her own words Sandra said: “though my father is still alive, I count him as someone who is dead because he is of unsound mind.”

Sandra has two brothers and three sisters who are also not going to school. Sandra now stays at Lwanyonyi village - Mukono with her grandmother, Magdalene Nambi, an old peasant farmer who can only provide food to her granddaughter. Sandra said: “I take myself as an orphan who is so addicted to education but I lack someone to pay school fees.”

Sandra is currently seated at home without anybody to pay for her school fees. She has no academic records at all because they were all held at school for fees defaulting but basing on the general assessment made by FINIDP staffs, Sandra is a bright girl. Sandra wants to become a nurse. When asked about her situation Sandra said: “….my father became insane and my mother died; but I don’t think God has forgotten me, I will continue praying to him.” “I may one time go back to school and become some one important in future.” “I’m the eldest at home; I know that through education I will be able to help my siblings and others in a similar situation.” “I promise to work hard if get sponsorship.”
