Simon Peter Kaggwa

Simon Peter Kaggwa, 10, lost his mother, Mary Nassozi, to HIV/AIDS in 2007. Simon’s late mother, Mary, was the family’s sole provider, so her death left the family in great sorrow and misery. Simon Peter stays in a simple two roomed house at upper Kauga village Mukono with his father, Sadraka Kisirinya, and his two elder sisters, Ruth and Ester. Their father, Sadraka, is ever sick and worse still he is not gainfully employed so it’s the elder sister, Ester Kizza, a mere student in high school (Senior six) at Progressive Citizens High School- Mukono who tries to meet all their needs. Esther works as a part-time maintenance officer at a nearby hostel owned by a friend to their late mother and she does this work after school.

Simon Peter’s family is a true example of a pseudo child-headed family. Simon Peter’s other sister, Ruth, is in senior one at Progressive Citizens High School- Mukono and is being sponsored by FINIDP in partnership with Alliance Africa (www.allianceafrica.org) under the Orphan Education Support Project (OSESP).

Simon Peter is in primary four (P.4) at Bishop’s Central Primary school. Peter’s academic performance based on available records is not very good but possibly could be because of not settling at school, since he is all the time being sent back for school fees.

In his application for sponsorship to FINIDP, Simon Peter young as he is wrote: “I have a problem of school fees and I sometimes sit at home due to lack of fees and other school requirements, this affects my class performance.” “I want to receive an education sponsorship so that I have a good future.” “I’m aware that education is the key to success, so if I get education I’m sure that I will have a good future, because all well-off people that I see in Uganda today passed through education so I just want to be like those people.” Peter added: “my ambition is to be a teacher so I really understand that my scholarship will help me to be exposed to the above carrier and it will really help me as much as possible to get towards my ambition.” “Basically education tends to help a student fit in any situation as long as he/she needs to prosper.” Peter ended his application letter by praying to God to help him find a sponsor who can change his life for the better.
