Viola Naluzze

Viola Naluzze, 12, lost her mother, Juliet Namukasa, to HIV/AIDS in 2000. Her father, Sam Ssekitoleko, became insane in 2001. Viola has one sister and one brother but unfortunately her elder sister is already HIV positive since she was not going to school and several unsympathetic men were seducing and using her. Viola’s family was renting Robinah’s house before their father became mad, so as a kind person, Robinah decided to take up Viola because she totally had no one to help. Currently Viola lives at Kauga Villlage – Mukono with a sympathiser, Robinah Katamba, a house wife.

Viola said: “….I’m a bit older than my colleagues in class, I wouldn’t have been in primary five (P.5) by now but it’s because I never went to school for some years due to lack of fees.” “Even after auntie Robinah transferring me to her home in Kauga, I spent a year without going to school, simply because she is just a house wife with no major source of income, and she just has to talk nicely to her husband for my school requirements.” “Much as my auntie loves me, she just can’t afford paying my fees in time, and sometimes I go to school without books, geometry set and on some occasions I go without lunch at school, and all these affect my performance in class, because I just don’t concentrate at all.” “For my brother and sister; they don’t know any of our relatives because our father didn’t show them any and now it’s too late because he is insane.” Viola promised FINIDP staff that she will work hard if given sponsorship because her only hindrance to academic progress is school fees. Viola is a hardworking student and her ambition is to become a doctor.
