William Kasirye

William Kasirye, 10, lost his father, Willy Kizito, in 2005 to cerebral malaria. William is currently in primary five (P.5) at St. Paul Primary school - Kabembe. Wiliam lives at Naalya village with his mother, Cathy Mukasa. Cathy has seven children; four girls and three boys, but can only support two with the little money she raises from subsistence farming. A visit to Cathy’s home by FINIDP staff revealed that she finds it hard to meet all her children’s needs particularly education. William’s mother said: “my son, William, was taken up by his grandparents but they were not able to pay for his school fees, and that he was always at their home doing house chores so I decided to bring him back home much as I wasn’t yet able to pay his fees.”

In his application letter for sponsorship to FINIDP William wrote: “I’m the last born at home, and my major problems are lack of school fees, school uniforms, books and shoes; and these problems are making my life at school difficult.” “My current situation is not good because I haven’t yet paid school fees, I’m always sent home for fees and I miss a lot.” “I want to receive an education sponsorship to make my life better.” “My ambition is to become an engineer.” “I will be very glad if I get sponsorship.” “If I get someone to sponsor me, I will work hard to make them happy so that they can continue sponsoring my studies.”

FINIDP staffs, Mukasa and Dan, were unable to see William’s academic records since they were confiscated by the school authorities due to failure to pay fees; but they noted that since William is still a young boy and looking at how he expresses himself before strangers; chances are high that he might be a good performer.
